LNG Complex SCADA Modernization & Expansion
Design, development, and commissioning of a new SCADA system; integration with the existing primary process control system; connection of new process modules.
The Challenge
The client introduced a new energy-efficient process module with its own local automation system, requiring seamless integration with the existing plant-wide SCADA. The legacy platform based on Siemens S7-300/400 PLCs and legacy HMI created a technology gap, so the core requirement was safe, reliable interoperability without disrupting ongoing production at a high-hazard LNG facility.
The Solution
- Installed industrial protocol gateways to connect disparate networks and controller families.
- Deployed an OPC UA server as a secure data translation layer between new controllers and the legacy SCADA.
- Delivered a modern Wonderware InTouch + Historian supervisory layer as a unified operator interface while keeping the legacy SCADA as a redundant control layer.
- Developed detailed Functional Descriptions defining command exchange, status reporting, and alarm escalation logic.
The Outcome
- Commissioned the new cold box module and additional gas treatment train on schedule, enabling the planned capacity increase.
- Improved situational awareness and response times through a unified modern operator interface.
- Eliminated heterogeneity risks by ensuring safe, predictable cooperation between legacy and modern systems.
- Met stringent SEZ regulatory requirements, including environmental and safety compliance.

Major Arctic Pipeline Automation Project
Centralized SCADA system for a 117 km Arctic gas pipeline, integrating valve stations, the compressor station, and gas metering into a single dispatch view.
The Challenge
Automating a mission-critical pipeline in the Arctic required centralized control of 15+ valve stations and a compressor station, strict reliability for the 22 km underwater crossing, seamless integration with the gas metering station, and equipment that could operate in permafrost, sub-zero temperatures, and high humidity.
The Solution
- Deployed a central control room built on Siemens WinCC with unified operator screens, historian archiving, and automated reporting.
- Installed Schneider Electric SCADAPack RTUs at valve stations and the compressor station with local autonomous safety logic and low-bandwidth telemetry.
- Integrated the gas metering station so custody transfer data flowed directly into the SCADA database and dispatch console.
- Implemented a resilient communications network using fiber optic, radio relay, and satellite links for Arctic coverage.
The Outcome
- Enabled 24/7 monitoring of the underwater crossing with automated safety interlocks and emergency shutdowns.
- Delivered a unified operational picture from compressor performance to valve positions and commercial flow data.
- Automated reporting and eliminated manual metering reconciliation, improving custody transfer accuracy.
- Reduced field visits and OPEX by enabling remote operation of critical assets.
